Rep. Vargas Secures More than $14 Million for Community Projects

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 12th, 2024) – Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-52) secured more than $14 million in federal funding for community projects across South San Diego County for FY 2024 in the funding package that passed the House of Representatives. 

“I’m proud to have secured more than $14 million in Federal funding that will assist and strengthen our communities,” said Rep. Vargas. “It is critical that we support our infrastructure, education sites, and transportation access across the 52nd Congressional District.” 

The 15 Community projects receiving funding are: 

  1. $1,926,000 for the WIFIRE Commons
  2. $959,752 for the Sweetwater Authority for National City Wells Iron and Manganese Removal System Project 
  3. $1,300,000 for the Barrio Logan Freeway Lid Parks 
  4. $882,000 for the Blue Line Passenger Variable Message Sign (VMS) and Public Address (PA) System Upgrades Project 
  5. $1,666,279 for the Clean Transit Advancement Campus (CTAC) 
  6. $850,000 for the Community Resilience Hub at Montgomery Waller Recreation Center 
  7. $850,000 for the Historically Disadvantaged Small Business Revitalization Program 
  8. $500,000 for the Imperial Beach Pier Enhancement 
  9. $850,000 for the Marie Widman Memorial Park Improvements 
  10. $850,000 for the Oak Park Library Construction 
  11. $1,200,000 for the San Diego Safe Parking Program Site Expansion 
  12. $927,778 for the San Ysidro Mobility Hub 
  13. $500,000 for the Transit Center Relocation Project 
  14. $850,000 for the University Avenue Densification Pilot Project 
  15. $500,000 for the Utility and Water Improvements at San Diego College of Continuing Education 

Congressman Vargas represents California’s 52nd Congressional District which includes portions of San Diego County, and a portion of California’s U.S.- Mexico border. Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his sixth term in Congress. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee.
